Before the incident

EE was working in clean room on cutting a 2 x 4 wood plank and tying plastic cover for broken compactor door. Employee had 2 Ops Maintenance employees there helping him until a call came and both techs responded to Operations floor. Shortly after employee had injury.

What happened

EE was called [REDACTED] ([REDACTED]) to the trash compactor room to reports of door not coming down. Upon inspection he noticed it was severely damaged and could not be repaired by staff on site. Acknowledging the quality and safety impact of this external door being left open EE went and began working a temporary solution to door. This solution was a plastic strip curtain door. Utilizing a 2x4 wood plank and plastic straps EE began working on this temporary solution. After acquiring his materials EE realized EE was already past scheduled shift but decided to stay and complete the job. They went and grabbed 2 Operations Maintenace Technicians that had just got to work to assist. They were on site in clean room assisting hm with work until they were called to floor for an Operations issue. Shortly after and just as EE was finish off the makeshift door EE cut into plank for fit and battery powered circular saw blade made contact with a knot in plank causing it to jump back and cut deepl

Summary line

EE was near the end of their shift cutting wood to support the compactor door that was broken. While making the final cut in the wood the saw blade hit a knot and the saw jumped and cut their finger.
