Before the incident
Taking a part surgical instrumentation of a vendor
What happened
I was doing the part of the job in central sterile of decontaminating instrumentation. We had a orthopedic case come down which utilizes vendor items (items owned by a different company - Zimmer Biomet) where after use the vendor and scrub techs work together to take these things a part. These however were not taken a part so I though to go ahead and do so myself as I 've had skillsets to do so. With full on PPE on despite my face shield I decided to take a part the impactor from this handle which was soaking in enzymatic biohazard filled water and had imploded the moment I took it a part splashing recoiling under my face shield and into my left eye.
