What happened
My LOS was already agitated and having a night. My coworker was angered over a situation and was refusing to speak and talk to me. As the night went on my LOS was following me around scratching at me and hitting me. He came up behind me twice and punched me on my back that caused me to lose my breath for a second. My LOS kept scratching at me and poking at me on my legs chest neck and face even due to being agitated. I did try utilizing blocking pads used redirection giving chores and even tried offering fruit for a snack and water and nothing was helping. I tried working my shift but after I was moved and my adrenaline calmed down the back pain was evident. I asked to leave and went to the ED as it was the only thing open. I was evaluated and had scans. They treated me with meds and discharged me with pain meds and relaxers. I have bruising on the back and muscles and it needs a few days to heal.
