What happened
Employee and two coworkers were attempting to straighten a loop in a steel coil at the 400 ton press. The end of the steel broke free so that the tension of the steel loop caused it to straighten toward the employee. The employee attempted to block the steel loop coming at them with their left hand but as the end of the steel loop settled it caught the employee 's left hand between the steel and the gate. The edge of the steel lacerated the employee 's left palm when it was caught against the gate.
