Before the incident
Rn was showing new RN how to deaccess a port as part of training. RN was standing on the left side of the bed close to the patient for proper positioning with all equipment - gauze and bandaid at bedside
What happened
Hand slipped from shealth stabilizers and when needle was pulled up hand bounced slightly back inserting needle slightly into left index finger. [REDACTED] immediately completed task and expelled as much blood as possible scrubbed hands with soap and water. Alerted proper personnel.
