Entered patients ' room to draw ordered blood. Room was dark when I entered. Noted 2 blood tubes on bedside table full of blood that was already drawn by APRN not labeled. Gray rubber stopper from needle was not capped and was left under the blood tubes. When I grabbed the blood tubes I stuck myself on right index finger with said needle left behind.

Sharps not properly disposed of by previous employee who obtained the specimens.

Right index finger. Labwork was drawn in ED and is pending.. Mentally stressed out shaking upset about incident and carelessness of previous healthcare worker who left dirty sharps behind and did not follow proper protocol on disposal. Anxious about current state of health after needlestick on MRSA + patient.

Exposed to contaminated sharp

Needlestick injury to right index finger from contaminated phlebotomy needle left unsecured at patient bedside sustained when employee picked up blood tubes left by colleague.
