PIV attempt
What happened
Employee was at an outside facility on an interfacility transport. The transport team was performing a PIV attempt on the patient when the employee was struck with the needle. The patient had been stuck with the needle in their left hand when the patient pulled away and the needle came in contact with the employee 's left index finger thru the exam glove. The needlestick site bled briefly and was immediately washed with soap and water. No additional bleeding occurred. Employee immediately contacted transport charge nurse. Charge nurse notified leader on call.
