What happened

Around [REDACTED] in the morning I was cycle counting a multi-dose vial of a control in the IV room - I was cleaning up after drawing up medication and documenting the amount. After doing so I was about to clean the IV hood surface not knowing the cap of the needle was not secured on and had slipped off therefore pocking myself with the needlestick with empty syringe in hand. Needlestick was exposed since it was used to cycle count drug. It had caused a tiny pock on my right index finger that lead me to stop and let my partner know what had happened as well as the IV pharmacist. I was given instruction by the manager once the incident happened to de-garb and wash hands immediately due to visually seeing a needlestick pock once sterile gloves were taken off of right hand. Then given instruction to report the incident per policy and procedure.
