Crying in pain - hyperventilating
What happened
I was called to the charge nurse desk to check on EE as she was sobbing in pain. EE has a known back injury and it does occasionally flare. I went to speak with her and she was crying so hard I could not get her to answer my questions. Shortly (less than 3 minutes) I was speaking to her and she lost consciousness. She was assisted to the floor by myself and [REDACTED] RN. An IMT was immediately called. House Supervisor told me to call back and report it was an emergency code. The team came up from the EC with a stretcher and EE was transported to the EC. I phoned EAP to confirm EE was eligible for an uber ride if she needed pain medications or was deemed unsafe to drive home. Gave the number to EE to call if needed. I called employee health and reported the IMT. I spoke with EE and we agreed she would be removed from the schedule for her next shift. EE refused pain meds except [REDACTED]. I have encouraged EE to take a leave to let her back heal. She has agreed to call employee health
