What happened
RN experienced a needle stick after giving vaccinations while discarding needle into sharps container. Needle safety mechanism was engaged but needle was not completely covered and as RN was placing needle in sharps container RN experienced a pinch and upon removal of gloves discovered a small prick that was slightly bleeding on left finger. RN called employee health was instructed to draw patient labs with guidance on which tubes to fill. RN informed provider patients mother and nursing manager. Received consent to draw labs from mother of patient. Source labs drawn and patient was stable upon discharged.
