On [REDACTED] [REDACTED] was attempting to re-route a thermocouple chain inside of [REDACTED] 3 in [REDACTED] 2. [REDACTED] along with [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] enter the north side of the [REDACTED] carrying a ladder. Once they reached the thermocouple chain which was on the left side of the [REDACTED] on the coil side they begin to position the ladder upward to be able to climb up and re-position the chain. As they were positioning the ladder in place which was right next to an open pit [REDACTED] took a step back and his left foot fell inside of the hot pit.
