While seated at the computer with the patient present the patient picked up a small object from the floor asked what it was and handed it to this PCT. Upon receiving the object this PCT sustained a puncture injury to the finger with subsequent bleeding and identified the object as a vacutainer needle. This PCT instructed the patient not to touch the item; however while the needle was still in this PCT 's hand the patient reached out made contact with the needle and sustained a puncture injury at that time. House Supervisor was notified immediately. Appropriate needle-stick exposure protocols were initiated.
