Before the incident
I was sedating an animal with ketamine using a 23g needle and 3 ml syringe. I had just put a NHP back in the cage next to the ones that were needing to be sedated and picked up the syringe to go sedate the next ones.
What happened
I went to pull the cap off the needle once the animal was restrained well and the cap fell off the needle as I touched it. With the momentum of my hand to take the cap off I grabbed the base of the needle and immediately pulled my hand back.

Ee sustained needle stick when removing needle cap to continue sedating NHPs.
