Before the incident
Preparing to draw labs
What happened
I entered IMC 1 to draw labs off existing PIV. I wanted to empty a 10cc flush half way to use it to draw back and check IV patency. I was closer to the sharps container than the sink so I went to drip some of the saline into the sharps container but pushed the plunger harder than intended. The saline splashed off the inside backboard of the sharps container and into around my eyes. I flushed my eyes w water for approx 1 min. Charge RN notified checked into ED per protocol
