Before the incident
RN was giving the patient medication. I was giving a heparin injection and hanging an antibiotic. The area where I was working was crowded with the patient 's walker the IV pole a chair and the patient 's tray table. RN attempted to avoid the obstacles but instead slipped and caught herself on the chair.
What happened
I slipped while giving meds to patient in room. The area was crowded but I needed the IV pole. A chair was on the same side of the bed as the IV pole and the walker had been left in this same area by someone. The patient 's tray table was on the same side of the bed. I tried to walk around the chair and the table but something was closer than I thought and tripped me. I was able to catch myself on the chair and did not fall to the floor.
