PT 's medication prescription said he need 40 units of insulin; it was not the usual insulin injecting pen I 'm use too I asked two nurses about it to clarify correctly that I needed to pull the insulin out of stock bin and needed an insulin syringe. got the syringe it filled to correct units. swabbed pts abdomen and injected. I sat the syringe down on the wow to fix the pts gown and IV cord instead of immediately discarding went to pick it back up and put in sharps and stuck myself in the process.
