Replacing part on machine

two employees were replacing a butterfly valve to 3 DISA exhaust. Valve had been replaced pipe had been put back on and they were ready to try it before putting the hose back on. Blew the first mold and it exhausted abnormally causing sand to come out of the pipe a bit sideways where employee was standing and sand hit him in the face.
