MCY Hospital Contingent worker sustained a dirty needlestick puncture to left palm while reaching for 18g needle during thoracentesis procedure. EE reports had inserted a thoracentesis catheter into pt and turned around to pick up tubing. US Tech had uncapped a clean needle for EE to pick up but EE unaware uncapped and grabbed non-fluid injected needle which stuck CW in left palm through contaminated gloves.
