Preparing to replace a cooling fan

Maintenance tech was preparing to replace the cooling fan on the motor for the [REDACTED] Hoffman blower. Tech locked out the motor and proceeded to remove the housing guarding the cooling fan. Due to the motor shaft free-wheeling the shaft did not come to a stop and was not slowing down after being locked out. Tech attempted to bring the shaft to a stop by grasping the end of the shaft with a pipe wrench. The pipe wrench grabbed onto the shaft causing the tech 's hand to impact an exposed stud. Tech called maintenance lead for assistance and site first responders rendered first aid then took tech to the emergency room.
