Before the incident
Engaging Clutch on Bottom Seamer
What happened
An employee was working completing a size change on line 23 Can Assembly bottom double seamer. In final stages before starting up the BTM seamer the maintainer had to reset the drive clutch. The clutch latch did not engage to hold the clutch in place causing the clutch lever to spring back striking the employees right-hand tip of thumb. First aid treatment was done on the torn thumbnail. At the end of the day employee decided to go to the doctor where they discovered a fractured distal phalanx (first bone in the thumb) which required a splint. No restrictions and no days away.
