Vaccine administration

A flu vaccine was being administered to a patient I was giving the vaccine with my right hand I was using a shot blocker device with my left hand The patients parents were helping maintain stability I informed the patient that I was about to administer the shot and he wanted to look away I put the shot blocker down announced it then administered the vaccine As soon as the needle touched him he jolted his arm and the needle came out and scraped my left thumb the hand holding the shot blocker I put the safety on the needle and excused myself from the room I found help and washed my hands with soap and water Called employee health and followed the protocol recommended The patient went down to the lab and got blood work
