Before the incident
A researcher was handling a 50ml cylinder of Cyclohexasilane a pyrophoric liquid in the fume hood in [REDACTED]. The cylinder was presumed to be empty (EE followed SOP and purge standard for verifying canister was empty) and was being prepared for disassembly and recycling. EE opened valve on cylinder nothing happened. Once EE started removing the valve from the canister residual material in the cylinder ignited when exposed to oxygen causing a small fire inside of a glass tray in a ventilation hood and on the gloves of the researcher causing injury.
