What happened

I was holding the arm of a [REDACTED] patient so that the phlebotomist could draw blood After successfully drawing blood the phlebotomist withdrew the needle and I reached with my thumb to hold pressure with the gauze that had been placed In reaching I inadvertently stuck the tip of my thumb with the exposed needle My hand was gloved however needle stick did occur I immediately notified charge and RN supervisor I initially cleaned my thumb with an alcohol swab primarily to see if I had been stuck or if I just had the patients blood on me In doing so I could verify that I had an actual needle stick I washed my thumb with soap and water for ten minutes and contacted charge RN and Nurse Supervisor Occupational health was also called and left with my cell phone number however it was after hours and so a voicemail was left Nurse Supervisor filled out paperwork and arranged to draw needle stick labs on the patient I also emailed my direct supervisor informing of the needle stick as this form
