Before the incident
The circulating nurse had just initiated the closing count when the surgeon asked for the closing stitch. I stopped counting and loaded another suture to pass to the surgeon.
What happened
Apon turning around and attempting to hand off the suture I was met by an uncapped needle which was in the hand of the Nurse Practitioner. She had been resting her hand on the mayo stand which the uncapped needle pointing upward and in my direction.
