Before the incident
Patient brought down for PICC placement. Lidocaine was administered for local anesthetic. Access to vein was obtained and PICC was measured at appropriate length. Next was to make small nick on pt for vascular sheath placement
What happened
While grabbing scalpel my gown caught part of the syringe that was in the sharps box. As I moved I felt a scratch on my right forearm. I lifted my arm up and saw the lidocaine syringe fall. I finished procedure and immediately cleaned area with CHG 4.
