Lowering the crane hook block on the east hoist to prepare for connecting the 7 Ton spreader beam to the hook.

An employee was preparing to help move plate for the new plasma table in [REDACTED] using an overhead crane with a spreader beam attached to its hoist. The employee got the crane into position and was lowering the hook on the hoist in order to attach the beam to the hook. They were standing next to the beam (which had been stored on the ground with the I of the beam standing upright instead of laying on its side) when the beam began to tip over and pinned the employee 's foot between the beam and the concrete floor. The employee was taken to the local emergency room for medical treatment.
