What happened
After local was injected using a 22g hypo I attempted to unscrew the capped needle from the syringe. The hypo was stuck on the syringe. Extra force was used to take off the hypo. Instead of both the needle and the cap coming off just the cap came off. The used exposed hypo poked through both of my gloves to my left thumb. Hypo and syringe were appropriately disposed of and not used again on the patient. I broke scrub and washed using betadine. [REDACTED] [REDACTED] notified and protocol followed.
