Before the incident
He was trying to remove a long handled tool from the candle breaker on #3 furnace. The candle breaker had caught the tool while it was inserted into the furnace vapor port.
What happened
He was trying to pull the tool out of the riser when he grabbed the pipe handle with his gloved hands. The tool had been in the 2400 degree furnace and was very hot. It burned his hand on contact.
