Before the incident
Operator was working on press brake machine forming small metal parts requiring two bends. Operator had grip on part with his index fingers and thumbs while using foot control to move press ram in downward motion. As downward motion of ram made contact with metal part forming part with upward motion left index figure caught between the ram and part causing injury to fingernail tip of finger.
What happened
When finger pinched between ram and part fingernail was crushed. Operator was able to use foot contol to relaese ram with upward motion to release left index finger from between the two surfaces. Injured area was bleeding and affected area turned a shade of red and purple. First aid was then given.
