Before the incident
Assisting pt from the edge of a bariatric bed almost slidding off the bed- back in bed in a safer position.
What happened
I was called into the pt room to assist as pt was almost slipping off the air mattress. The patron was barely underneath him and gait belt was in place. 2 other staff were present in pt room and I called for a 4th staff member (including myself) for assistance. I went on the otherside of the bed and grabbed the gaitbelt that was already around him. Pt shorts were soaked in urine and you could also smell urine when near him. Being uncertain as to where that was- I had grabbed the gait belt with my right arm stretched across the bed and attempted to keep the pt from slipping on the floor. There was tension on the gait belt to ensure safety of pt from falling forward off bed. Nsg encouraging pt to lay back in bed and let us assist him back into bed- he was argumentative with staff and eventually allowed staff to lift his legs in the bed as he laid back in the bed. I did hold tension on the gait belt stretched across the bed for a minimum of 10 minutes- I did not keep track nor look at clo
