I was drawing blood culture samples from the patient 's left arm. I had finished collecting the blood cultures popped the torniquet and went to release the safety on the needle to properly dispose of. Patient had remained still for the entire procedure but when I went to release the safety he quickly moved his arm and pulled the needle out of his arm. As the needle fell it poked through my glove on the back of my left hand.
