What happened
A plant mechanic was grinding the retention pin of of a shovel handle to replace the handle. He was working on the tailgate of his pickup truck. The shovel was laying on the bed of the truck with the employee holding the end of the shovel head. The grinder wheel got caught between the retention pin and the handle shank and skipped out. When the grinder skipped out the wheel struck his left thumb and cut thru his leather glove lacerating his thumb.
