The operator applied the breaks on the forklift and top bin slid toward the top of the forklift. The operator braced for impact by putting their hands up to cover their head. The operators left had went through the safety cage in the top of the forklift where it was struck by the moving bin. This action lacerated their left-hand index finger. First aid was administered and the operator was taken for stitches.
