Breaking down boxes to be recycled
What happened
Two production employees were working together to remove cardboard overpacking from microcrystalline cellulose to prepare it for blending inside one of the plant’s cleanrooms. During this preparation step interior bags are removed from the cardboard boxes and placed onto a cart and the cardboard is broken down to go to recycling. While performing this task one of the employees took a 13.5 in. square slip sheet out of the box and threw it like a frisbee towards a pile of cardboard. The piece of cardboard did not fly straight and it curved up into the other employee’s face and contacted the corner of their eye.
