Exposed to repeated fire alarm noise in [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] while working in the ORs at Virtua Memorial. Experienced ear pain with fire alarm while taking care of patients in the PACU (possibly on [REDACTED]). Immediately covered ears with my hands and after finishing my task left the PACU walked through the halls with fire alarms back to surgical services office. Ear discomfort subsided somewhat but persisted. Developed noise sensitivity to even ambient noise (TV phone calls people talking) and started to wear ear plugs 24 7 during my vacation week of [REDACTED]. Have since returned to work wearing ear plugs and reported my concern of fire alarm intensity as an occupational hazard. Due to persistence of symptoms attempted to make an appointment with occupational health and was instructed to file an incident report. Of note fire alarms consistently go off in the ORs on a weekly basis and PACU RNs have reported the problem before without response.
