One employee held a partially fabricated wye while another employee (injured employee) tried to remove the bead material while it was still warm from being welded. The second employee (injured employee) held the knife with both hands for good grip. The tension from the hardened material and the employee 's force built up until it caused a jerky slip that released the grip on one hand and drove the tip of the knife into the soft tissue of palm of his hand about where the index finger and the thumb meet. The injured employee was taken to the urgent care clinic the doctor evaluated treated the cut and applied 3 stitches to close the wound. The doctor sent the employee back work with light duty for the rest of the day. [REDACTED] hand is functional and he is able to perform most tasks that don 't require hard grip and heavy handling.
