Before the incident
Suctioning patient
What happened
Patient 's monitor was alarming with low O2 saturation I went in to assess and patient needed suctioning. Suctioning with the yankeur was no effective in clearing his secretions. He required deep suctioning with a catheter down him throat to clear the secretions at the back of his throat. I inserted the catheter and was suctioning aggressively to help raise his O2 saturations and he bit down with my pointer finger in his mouth. I continued to suction until he was stable then when I removed my glove I noticed that there was a puncture wound with a scant amount of blood around it.
