Before the incident
The employee had tac-welded two channel irons together but needed to readjust them to finish the weld.
What happened
The E.E. had tack-welded two pieces of channel iron together and grabbed the material by hand to readjust it on his station so he could finish welding them together. As he was moving the material the bottom flange fell off of the skid while the employee was still holding the material at the top flange. When the bottom slipped off the skid his left thumb was crushed between the top flange and the skid.
