Saection 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The hazard of falling, in that, on or about 11/7/90 and times prior thereto, three 1979 Ford model 7000 refuse collection trucks; VIN #R70BVEJ5681, R70BVEJ5683 and R70BVEJ5679 were not equipped with riding steps which were self-cleaning to prevent the accumulative of snow, mud of ice. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct this hazard is: 1) Retrofit each truck with riding steps that are self-cleaning.
