MILE POST 295 ON HIGHWAY 50 - ON OR ABOUT 8/16/90 AND AT
TIMES PRIOR THERETO, EMPLOYEE(S) WERE EXPOSED TO HAZARDS
ASSOCIATED WITH POTENTIAL INJURY FROM FALLING FROM THE
UNPROTECTED CARGO AREA OF PICKUP TRUCK(S) AND/OR FLATBED
TRUCKS USED TO TRANSPORT EMPLOYEES TO AND FROM THE WORKSITES,
WHILE PLACING AND PICKING UP CONES, AND WHILE PLACING, KNOCKING
DOWN OR PICKING UP SIGNS.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD ARE:
1) TRANPORT EMPLOYEES ONLY INSIDE THE TRUCK CAB WITH APPROPRIATE USE OF
SEAT BELTS; AND/OR
2) IF EMPLOYEES MUST WORK FORM THE BED OF THE TRUCK, INSTALL AND USE A
RESTRAINT SYSTEM SUCH AS SAFETY BELT/LANYARDS ATTACHED TO ADEQUATELY
ANCHORED EYEBOLTS OR OTHER MEANS OF ATTACHMENT; OR
3) INSTALL A WORK PLATFORM WITH APPROPRIATE GUARD RAILS AND/OR SAFETY
BELTS FOR USE ONLY WHEN EMPLOYEES MUST WORK FROM THE BED OF THE
TRUCK.
