Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by descending vehicle on hydraulic lifts in the event of hydraulic failure because automatic lift lock (safety locks) were not provided on the two Werver Hydraulic Lifts along the west wall of the service bay. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method among others to correct the hazard is to: 1) Re-install the missing mechanical safety devices. 2) Instruct and train all employees in the proper use of mechanical safety devices and ensure their routine use. 3) Establish and implement periodic (daily) inspections before use and subsequent repair as needed with original equipment parts. 4) Post manufacturers operating instruction.
