General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to flying plastic projectiles: a) Exposure to flying plastic prjectiles from the potential rupture of 3/4" PVC piping used to carry compressed air at 110 psi in the Formica Room, the Door Room, and the main cabinet shop of the work site. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: 1) Replace the current PVC compressed air piping system with a system containing material suitable for the maximum air pressure being used; or 2) Limit the operating pressure of plastic piping distribution systems to 100 psi and insure that the above ground portion of plastic service lines are completely enclosed in conduits or casings of sufficient strength to provide protection from external damage and deterioration.
