Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling loads of lock seam metal roofing panels due to not padding the sharp edges of the material or otherwise protecting the synthetic web slings that were used for hoisting the material from damage: a. At Building L, bundles of lock seam metal roofing panels were rigged with nylon web slings for hoisting to the roof without protecting the slings from the sharp edges of the material, causing one of the slings to be cut and dropping the load, on or about September 7, 1999. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard would be to pad the sharp edges of the material being hoisted where contact with the slings occurs with a material that would prevent damage to the sling. "ABATEMENT VERIFICATION REQUIRED"
