Section 5 (a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
the hazard to electrocution, in that a 24 foot dump truck was to such a
height and position that is contacted a 7,620 volt, phase to ground,
overhead distribution wire.
Among other methods. some feasible and acceptable abatement methods to
correct this hazard are: (1) provide more intensive employee training
whereby they are made aware of and are readily able to identify similar
electrical hazards and clearance requirements; (2) install insulating
barriers to prevent physical contact with the wire: (3) de-energize
overhead wires prior to performing any work in their proximity in
accordance with Georgia Code 525(1960), Section 3, Clearance
Requirements.
