Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
being struck by falling objects:
a) Paper Storage Area, Otis Material Handling Moto-Truc, "Walkie"
Hi-Lift trucks (Model No. CB-025, Serial No. 96318), the clamp
lift truck and fork-lift truck operator was not protected against
any falling objects when performing lifts up to 13 feet above the
floor, February 19. 1987.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS:
To provide overhead guards on lift truck to protect operators.
