Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
Burn Hazard:
a) The foot pedals on five (5) Laundry/dry cleaning presses, (3)
Hoffman presses, (2) Topper presses in the Pressing Area were not
equipped with guards to prevent accidental activation of the
machines, thus exposing employees to Burn Hazard, November 24, 1986.
Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to install a barrier guard around the foot
pedals to prevent accidental activation.
