Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to explosion: (a) Location: Boulder County, Co., Exeter rig #1, South of Highway 7 and West of Tennyson: On or about November 14, 1993. Exeter Drilling Company did not ensure that well control procedures were implemented to prevent the "poor boy" gas separator from exceeding it's capacity. Among other's, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to train/instruct employees in the avoidance, recognition and actions required to prevent exceeding the capacities of "poor boy" gas separators.
