Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
Employees were exposed to the hazard of well blow out and fire, or
other emergency, while on the monkey board.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to protect
employees would be to install a properly rigged and secured escape line
(Geronimo line) or other satisfactory auxiliary means of escape from the
derrick. The condition occurred on or about June 30, 1987, 2 miles south
of Robstown, Texas. Russel Lease Well #1, employer's Rig #8.
