Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety adn Health Act of 1970: the
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free frm recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) The hazard of being crushed. in that on 1/10/90 and at times prior
to, employees were exposed to unexpected descent or collapse of the
three (3) dual hydraulic automotive lifts in the automobile service
departments.
Among other methods, one feasible an acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to install and properly maintain automatic locking devices to
hold the automotive lifts in the fully extended position.
b) The hazard of being crushed in that on 1/10/90 and at times prior
to, employees were exposed to serious injury from unexpected descent
or collapse of the Western Automobile lift in the northwest corner
area of the automotive service department.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to repair or replace the automotive locking
device which presently does not always function automatically.
