Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:
The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment
which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely
to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard of explosive detonation and/or
fire due to the storage of incompatible chemicals:
a)  In the Research Lab, approximately 4 liters of
glacial acetic was stored in close proximity to
approximately 4 liters of 70nitric acid.  Mixing of the
two substances can result in explosive detonation and/or
fire.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method
to correct this hazard is to physically separate the acetic acid
and nitric acid so as failure of both containers would be unlikely
to result in the accidental mixture of the
